Built-Up Roofs: BURs use different types of insulation and top layers, which are adhered using hot asphalt. These roofs are usually covered by an aluminum coat or gravel to help protect it from the sun and keep the building cooler.
Residential: Most residential roofs are covered with a layer of felt and asphalt shingles. The asphalt shingles are either three tab or laminated. Less common shingles include: wood, tile, and slate.
Rubber (EDPM): EPDM is a flexible single-ply roofing system that is applied to the roof using roofing adhesive.
Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO): TPO is a single-ply roofing system with a mesh membrane and white-reflective surface. Seams are heat welded together.
Modified Bitumen: This is also a single-ply roofing system that is covered with small granules. It is an asphalt-based material.
